Isaac remembers it like it was yesterday. He was arriving late (as usual) to choir practice for BYU Living Legends, a cultural dance and performing arts team at BYU in Provo, Utah.
As he arrived, Isaac scanned the entire room and got a good view of the people he would be practicing with for the next nine months. One girl in particular caught his eye, and he definitely did not catch hers. As soon as the team split up, Isaac nonchalantly walked straight toward her and said, “Hi, what’s your name?”
With a very straight face and an uninterested tone, she replied, “Angelee,” and walked away without another word. Isaac was shocked. What happened? Perhaps she was having a bad day, or maybe it was because she had introduced herself to the entire group five minutes earlier, or maybe it was simply because Isaac had decided a mustache was a good look for him. Either way, Isaac knew he was in it for the long game.

However, much to Isaac’s surprise, every interaction with Angelee from that point on was positive, sweet, and even refreshing. Angelee was extremely kind, very silly in a cute way, and laughed at Isaac’s jokes when no one else would.
Still, Isaac had to be careful. One wrong move and suddenly seeing each other 10 hours a week for practice would become a nightmare. So he waited, and waited. For four months, Isaac and Angelee remained friends—nay, teammates. Angelee assumed that Isaac had no interest in her, so she didn’t give much thought to the possibility of something more. Meanwhile, whenever Isaac was invited to team hangouts, he always made sure to find out if she would be there first. Isaac was “planting seeds,” as he would say, but at the end of the day, Isaac was just scared.
In November, Isaac invited Angelee to a friendly hangout, which she declined. December came, and Angelee, feeling bad for declining and worried she wouldn’t be invited to more hangouts, decided to invite Isaac to a ward dinner party instead. That finally gave Isaac the courage to make a real move.

On January 15, Isaac asked Angelee on their first date: ice skating and hot chocolate. It was very casual and chill, but one of Angelee’s favorite things about Isaac is how, no matter what, she always feels comfortable just talking to him. She can always feel like herself around him.
After the second date, Isaac was so shocked he had even made it to one date that he had to know. He gave Angelee a call at 2 a.m. and asked if she’d be down to keep going on more dates. Of course, this shocked Angelee, but once again, she was impressed by how comfortable she felt with Isaac. While Angelee did have some reservations, she said yes.
From January to March, they continued going on and off on dates, deciding to stay friends, getting to know one another through every outing, and naturally growing closer.

April 2026
On April 12, 2026, they became official.
Funny enough, when Isaac asked Angelee to be his girlfriend, Angelee was excited… but also slightly confused because she thought they were already official.
Not long after they started dating, life started moving quickly. Isaac graduated from BYU with a degree in Journalism, Angelee was accepted into the Information Systems program, and together they traveled to Canada on tour with Living Legends. Only two months into dating, Isaac flew to Hawaiʻi to spend the summer with Angelee and her family in Lā‘ie for nearly a month.

Since then, they’ve built a relationship full of dancing, adventures, movie nights, Pokémon Go (haha), trying new food, and constantly making each other laugh. Even after Isaac finished Living Legends, they continued finding ways to dance together whenever they could.
One of their favorite parts of the relationship has been learning about each other’s cultures and sharing the things that make them who they are. Isaac is half Mexican and from Houston, Texas, while Angelee is half Filipino and from Lā‘ie, Hawaiʻi.

Isaac eventually proposed during a trip to San Diego while visiting his parents. At Sunset Cliffs, surrounded by Angelee’s siblings and Isaac’s parents, he asked Angelee to marry him. It was beautiful, emotional, and perfectly them.
Together, they are playful, a little nerdy, and always laughing. They love exploring new places, spending time with family, playing video games, watching movies, and growing together. Through every season of life, they have found consistency in their love for each other and in their shared testimony of Jesus Christ.
They are so excited to spend forever together, and they can’t wait to celebrate with everyone on June 23rd!!
